It was established by Dr Laurence Gerlis, a prominent doctor who for over 25 years had practiced as a private GP in the Harley Street area as well as in the NHS. Everything we do is founded on delivering the highest quality of service to complement the quality of medical attention essential in every aspect of healthcare.
The level of expectations today are such that many in the UK demand more in terms of service and responsiveness than it is reasonable to expect public healthcare to deliver. Our goal is to make such service available to anyone seeking it, offering second opinions, as the first point of contact into the medical community, or full and tailored health testing for sexual and other health issues.

The history of samedaydoctorTM
samedaydoctorTM was established in 2003 by Dr Laurence Gerlis. After spending 25 years practicing initially as an NHS GP and latterly as a traditional private GP in Harley Street, Dr Gerlis founded samedaydoctorTM to serve the growing demand for private primary medical care from the general public. Recognising that something beyond the traditional private practice was needed to complement the work of the NHS, Dr Gerlis established a clinic which was able to offer immediate appointments, strong customer service and high levels of confidentiality and professionalism. Focussing on GP services, health testing, sexual health and travel vaccinations, that clinic now employs over 15 doctors and nurses.
In 2007 samedaydoctorTM began a national expansion which carries on today, bringing this same quality and depth of service to areas outside Central London. In the three years since it has expanded through a mixture of franchised and wholly-owned clinics, samedaydoctor has grown to comprise four clinics in Greater London and four throughout the rest of the UK. Delivering the level of service which is the hallmark of samedaydoctorTM across each new location means the company has taken a careful and steady approach to adding locations, focusing on quality before quantity and always putting the care of every patient first.

Layton Tamberlin, Chairman
Layton Tamberlin joined the Board of samedaydoctorTM as Chairman in 2009 and has focused on bringing corporate discipline to work alongside the medical quality and patient focus as the group expands. A founder of Sullivan Street Partners and ex-TDR Capital, Mr Tamberlin has nine years experience in the private equity industry, investing in transactions ranging from £10m to £5bn, and oversees the group's business development and investment strategies.
Dr Laurence Gerlis, Chief Executive Officer
Dr Laurence Gerlis has over 25 years experience in the NHS, as a private GP, and working in the pharmaceutical industry. With eight years’ experience at the helm of samedaydoctorTM, Dr Gerlis has a deep knowledge of the demand from the UK population for private primary medical care and how best to serve this demand across different regions and demographics. Still practicing as a doctor within samedaydoctorTM, Dr Gerlis is also a specialist in diabetes.
Pauline Gerlis, Chief Operating Officer
Pauline Gerlis established samedaydoctorTM in 2003 with Dr Laurence Gerlis. Experienced in running GP practices and health clinics for over 20 years beforehand, Mrs Gerlis has overseen the expansion of the medical and administrative staff at samedaydoctorTM to over 70 personnel and manages the day-to-day operations and relationships for the group.
Dr Caroline Shuttleworth, Chief Medical Officer
Dr Caroline Shuttleworth is a sexual health specialist doctor with 20 years experience. In addition to continuing to practice as a doctor within samedaydoctorTM, Dr Shuttleworth functions as Chief Medical Officer for the group, ensuring medical and regulatory compliance and running regular checks and audits on medical procedures within samedaydoctorTM. In this dedicated role, Dr Shuttleworth also ensures samedaydoctorTM avails itself of the most up to date and effective technologies available as well as managing the specialist and secondary care medical relationships necessary for the group to serve its patients.

samedaydoctorTM is committed to increasing the accessibility of private primary medical care across the UK, and doing so with the highest possible levels of service and patient satisfaction. We will continue to develop our nationwide network of clinics and extend the services we offer in our existing clinics as we respond to the needs of the general population. In addition we are constantly exploring ways to improve alternative access to private medical care, such as working with partners in the medical community to provide specialist clinics.
