GUM Clinic

1% of sexually active adults under the age of 25 will contract or be affected by an STD, and the quicker that a sexually transmitted disease is recognised and treated the more effective that treatment is likely to be. A GUM Clinic, or Genito Urinary Medicine Clinic, can test for STDs and can also assist in other sexual health areas.

Confidential advice and treatment is offered at a GUM Clinic, helping ensure that your sexual health remains a top priority. You can visit a GUM Clinic following a Doctor's referral, or walk in without an appointment, and in many cases it may be beneficial to visit a GUM Clinic before consulting your own Doctor.

What is a GUM Clinic?

A GUM Clinic is a highly confidential clinic established for the diagnosis and treatment of sexual health related illnesses. As well as testing for sexually transmitted diseases, advice can be provided on various matters of sexual health. GUM Clinic Health Practitioners are specially trained to offer advice without judging and are typically able to offer more time than your family doctor or other health practitioner.

The samedaydoctorTM GUM Clinic can usually arrange appointments on the same day that you contact us, so you can find out the facts and be tested without having the panic of uncertainty.

Is our GUM Clinic confidential?

Confidentiality is a legal requirement within a GUM Clinic. Not only can you be tested and treated without the GUM Clinic having to report to your Doctor (unless they referred you in the first place) or insurance company but you can choose any GUM Clinic and do not need to provide your real name when making an appointment. All patients are treated with the utmost respect as well as confidentiality, so you can seek advice and receive treatment without having to worry.

Doctor Referrals

If you believe you have contracted an STD and want an STD Test then it often makes more sense to contact a GUM Clinic before your family Doctor. When a Doctor refers you to us we are obliged to report our findings back to them. However, if you visit us before contacting a Doctor we do not need to inform anybody of the tests given, or results received. Records of your tests that are provided to a Doctor will go on your medical record and this can cause difficulties when attempting to gain insurance or even a mortgage in the future.

GUM Clinic Tests

One of the primary concerns of a GUM Clinic is the testing for sexually transmitted diseases. Painless testing is offered for the majority of ailments with urinary tests being the most likely requirement. Tests like the Umbrella Test are an urban myth and are not carried out by any GUM Clinic. You can first discuss your problems with one of our skilled and qualified practitioners, and they will inform you of the most effective tests as well as any potential treatment for possible infections.

samedaydoctorTM GUM Clinics

The samedaydoctorTM GUM Clinic is a private and discreet service and we have clinics throughout the UK offering impartial and confidential services. If you believe that you are at risk of contracting an STD then you should be tested as quickly as possible, so that the appropriate treatment and advice can be given. Our private clinic offers a walk-in service so you don't need an appointment and you don't even need to give your real name. As long as you haven't been referred to us by your Doctor we are not required to record the results of your test, so nobody needs to know that you have visited the samedaydoctorTM GUM Clinic.
